Silba, The island of Silba is situated in the Zadar archipelago, southeast of Lošinj. Vine-growing, sheep-breeding, fishing and tourism form the economic basis. A forest of holly oak is widely spread in the northwestern part of the island, while other parts of the island are mainly overgrown by macchia.
Vrh, 80 meters high, is the highest peak on the island. What is prominent in the north of the island are Papranica and Pernastica coves, in the south-the port of St.Anthony and Nozdre Cove. Silba, the only settlement, is situated between the western and eastern harbor, in the outmost south of the island. The island has shipping connections with Pula, Mali Lošinj, Zadar, Venice and near-by islands. There are three harbors which can receive smaller yachts can anchor: Silba, St.Anthony and Žalić. With 2570 hours of sunshine per year, Silba is one of the sunniest islands in the Adriatic.
The island has been inhabited since the Roman Ages. In the 10.century, Constantine Porphyrogeneth mentions the island under the name of Selbo. In the 17. and 18. century, the village of Silba developed as a spot for sailing-ship owners and seamen, while tourism developed in more recent times.
